Is the 2011 movie worth watching?

Is it common in this type of article to recap the entire show, like the reading audience hasn't watched it? As far as Framke's writing, that was the main thing I found somewhat annoying. I watched the first episodes on Hulu and it suggested I watch the 2011 movie The Last Man on Earth. Is this show based on that movie?
