In most cases its a matter of movement. Some people like their dominant arm / hand to be armored when its forward so that the bullets / batarangs hit the armor, while the free arm / hand is loose to reload and other such.

Apparently its a rare bug that is with the first pressing of the game with the new DLC. The game by itself doesnt have any bugs i’ve noticed. Its just with the firestarter DLC and only in rare cases.
