I would be more interested in the wagon hyrbid model. The corolla hatch is honestly just too cramped.

Sidenote: apparently calling Elno Elonia on TwiXter will get you banned.

So your better judgement tells you that the Miata is the only acceptable one? That the hill you want to fight on?

The only one on the list that surprises me is the BMW.

I love how 10-15 years ago all the naysayers were insufferable with their “Having both gas and electric motor is going to mean twice the trouble — I’ll never buy a hybrid” and “the batteries are going to cost $15,ooo to replace and you’ll be doing that after 5 or 6 years... you’ll have to be a moron to buy a hybrid.”

Dear Toyota. If you offer the Corolla hatchback in a hybrid like you do in Europe, I will buy one. There are still people in the US who want a small hatchback with relatively basic features, and good MPG, I swear.

Lots of talk.  Let's see what actually happens.

I agree, at the end we are just talking about which is the better of two bad solutions. The NHTSA is apolitical *enough* do its thing regardless of congress and the current admin. IMO the bigger threat now is the supreme court just stripping it of its authority.

Hell, he’ll have doubled his money during the 3 year wait, so it’s not like there’s a bitter pill to swallow here.

Even worse, he doesn’t want the contract to end, but wants to end the “mandate”.

Are you sure about that? Motors and parts absolutely lose efficiency with wear. Maybe not 10%, but there is loss.

Yeah, the folks at Oshkosh must love him. Esp. since corporate types typically vote Republican... (not that any amount of cognitive dissonance will get thru to most conservative voters).

Is lowering speed limits the answer to curbing deaths on America’s roads?”

I like it. And for legitimate business use, you can write off that tax. No making up bullshit LLCs to dodge the tax, though.

Representative William Timmons, a South Carolina Republican who represents the district that is home to the Oshkosh plant building the EVs, said USPS should revert to its prior plan to buy 90% gas-powered vehicles, but not cancel the contract.”

Yup.  Local government really matters, yo!

America: But I want it!

The old E=1/2mv^2 equation is unshakeable. The only way to reduce energy is to reduce mass or speed.

Guys like Timmons (R-SC) are why I hate that party so much, and congresscreeps in general. He wants to end the USPS contracts and the “mandates” but the factory in his district should be spared.

Yearly tax with some factor of frontal area and overall weight.  Frontal area also scales if you lift your vehicle
