Yes, although some liberals find fodder there too (hence Ron Howard, I guess). The idea is that poor white people in the middle of the country are weak and self-indulgent, and if they would only straighten up and bootstrap themselves like he did, the country would get right again.
Spider-Pig made the entire Simpsons Movie.
She is very funny and clever. I hope she is writing or will write stuff for herself down the road. Proximity to Tina Fey seems like a good mentorship opportunity.
Just try and imagine a conversation where Bill Burr calls out a white woman for her selective and self-serving progressivism. Besides, not all white women bla bla bla bla bla bla bla blabla bla blabla bla blabla bla blabla bla blabla bla blabla bla blabla bla blabla bla blabla bla blabla bla blabla bla blabla bla…
Maybe because all us white women have too many bad memories of being in the physical presence of men who talk at us like that.
Maybe they could just tweet at each other?
Picture of health.
It’s inevitable.
Lovely tribute, and it made me think. A lot of the movies of that era treated women as decorative and/or punching bags. It was—and apparently still is—easy to call a movie like this “cheesy” ... mostly because it’s aimed at young women, I think?
Is it a bad sign for ageism in Hollywood that Uma Thurman is stuck in boring mom roles, or is it a good sign for ageism in Hollywood that Uma Thurman is playing the mom of children younger than her actual children? I’m not always on board for his stuff but that is really funny.
*This* was the story that needed to be made into *another* movie after they already made a perfectly good one? It should be titled Young White Male Actors Overemployment Project.
I’ve probably seen that Key & Peele sketch 8 times. It’s *chef’s kiss.* (And incidentally, as a child of the ‘80s, I need periodic reminders of the bonkers sweaters and glasses we wore back then.)
Wherever he ends up filming his next movie, I hope this marks the last occasion on which famous, successful actors fall over themselves to be included.
I agree 100%.
Maybe they could just center a new universe on those “gems of diversity.” Maybe they could hire some behind-the-scenes diverse gems to write and produce the whole thing. Black Panther wasn’t a mega-success because of Andy Serkis’s involvement, you know? (Not that I don’t love Andy Serkis.)
I got into the Gilmore Girls late too, at a time in my life when I could not handle watching murders and other horrible violence, but needed some long-form entertainment. I still have a hard time thinking of long-running shows that are not categorically comedies or teen-focused that also are not about cops, drugs,…
