First off, the author states "the workplace" which could literally mean any place of work. There are many female dominated workplaces in the United States. It's pretty clear to me that the author was referring to females as a whole as a minority, and not simply their existence in the workplace.

Sorry, I'm not seeing how the number of female CEOs is even remotely relevant or applicable here.
