As someone who grew up in Richland County, Ohio and then the very white suburbs of Columbus, this piece is basically telling my story. Almost everyone that I knew was the “I don’t see color but you’re not like those other black people but please stay away from our daughters and sisters” type of white person and it

How were you reading my mind? Are you a sorceress? :)

Something about a man standing on a rooftop praying, something about a rowboat, motorboat, and helicopter, something about God calling this newly arriving fool an idiot. I dunno, seems relevant.

Failed CEO’s, “thought leaders,” academic administrators, or execs of just about any kind.

QOTD fo’ sho.

Even his expository small talk was filled with his accomplishments rather than his shortcomings.

Yes!

“When you have a really good team, people will treat you this way,” he said. “And we do have a pretty good team.”

Without Google and the Black Internet, I would probably still believe that black people didn’t exist outside of Africa and the US until WWI.

Thing is that there are entire books on the lives of black people in the UK during the Victorian Age that are brilliant. The life of Sara Forbes Bonetta is something I’ve been waiting for since I was a kid. On our side of the pond are a wealth of stories surrounding free blacks of color, runaway slaves, creoles,

The thing is that there are already a plethora of learning materials out there to teach children about slavery, many of them created in a such a way to talk about a subject like that with small children. Aside from the racism, there’s the challenge of getting them to understand the idea of dehumanization, get their

Everybody has a moment to shine here: First, SwagKid comes through the door and immediately has an act ready, next comes UFOBaby who makes a comically quick dash through the back of the frame, and finally that woman came through the door with lightning speed and the grace of a ballerina! All the while, Kelly’s

Did they try turning Wenger off and on again?

I don’t know about that. For sure, those kind of theories are around in academia (I’ve rolled my eyes at more than a few) but I’ve never seen them go unchallenged. At least no one around my way would let something like that fly without raising a hand. Just because someone can get something published, doesn’t mean

I think the most important part of something like this is to not let yourself get incorporated into someone else’s agenda, particularly when that agenda runs counter to your interests.

It’s a thin list to be sure, but I would count Colin Powell and Condi Rice among black conservatives that are somewhat reasonable, even factoring in their Bush Administration actions (I’ve noticed they’ve stayed far clear of The Orange One). Note: I vehemently disagree with many of the ideas that these people hold in

“However, the residents who have condemned the racial incident are upset and are complaining about continuing to see the racial slur and how it is disturbing the peace in the quiet neighborhood.”

This is pure rinse and repeat with the conservative polity. They bring out these voices of bigotry, xenophobia, and hate in order to stir up the base when they don’t have any other options. Then as soon as they’ve got the power and those same voices start getting in the way, they drop them like sack of potatoes.

I think it’s definitely important for them to tread lightly. From what I’ve heard so far, it looks like the Trump administration is going to try to buddy up to HBCU adminstrations because: a) it’s a place where the Obama Administration had trouble, b) a lot of changes to fix those troubles has already occurred, and
