I seem to forget about Stranger Than Fiction all the time, but yes that is also a really good film. And I completely agree with your second point, and would add Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind to the list for Jim Carey's performance.

Personally I would go with Punch Drunk Love. The tender performances and small yet enormous feats of strength to overcome soul-crushing anxiety and loneliness speaks volumes to me.
