What a bizarre critique. The special was funny; like, really fucking funny. He revealed as much as he needed to in order to make the jokes work. Not every special needs to be doing some sort of Hannah Gadsby style confession.
This movie sounds so deranged, I had to check if Jon Peters was a producer.
Be fair. It wasn’t entirely a Taxi Driver ripoff. There was a fair bit of The King of Comedy in there too.
Yay!
‘Also everyone we knew at WotC/Hasbro has lost their jobs, so....’
Probably doesn’t help that Hasbro gutted WotC so there’s nobody to sign off on any new D&D tie-ins. Pretty sure Vincke has gone on record saying that everyone he worked with at Wizards for BG3 is gone.
Maybe his history made him an object of fascination? The public loves novelty, especially if there’s tragedy or scandal. What young man wouldn’t ride that wave if it rolled up? It’s discouraging to think that for every ‘Meh’ celebrity out there there are a thousand truly talented people who’ll never get a break.
If people kept throwing money at me to act like myself in tv shows and movies I’d ride that train right into the fuckin ground.
How much content can Pete Davidson produce that is loosely based on his early life? Is his life that interesting that it needs multiple movies, shows, stand-up specials, skits, etc?
I liked it. The second episode especially is a legitimately great episode of television that had me tearing up a little watching the story between Pete and Bobby Cannavale. Edie Falco is funny throughout. So’s Pesci. Kindof sucks there won’t be more considering how it ended, but it’s not near as disappointing as…
never before have a seen a guy stuck in second gear go so far.
How on earth is this dipshit still a thing. Or ever a thing for that matter.
It emphatically does not, unfortunately. It barely runs on the systems its on.
Interesting. Have you played Monster Hunter at all? I’ve tried but found it complex for no reason and bounced off of it. Curious to hear if there is any similarity with DD2.
I was hoping it would still be as corny as it was the first time around, and it made me happy during a preview when one of the pawns said “Fie! ‘Tis a cyclops!”
If it’s anything like the first one, I’ll definitely say that it is a dense game that seems impenetrable, but I was able to replay it as an adult over thirty with limited gaming time and found it to be one of the more enjoyable gaming experiences in recent years. I know that doesn’t make sense, but it’s a game that…
The ridiculous pawn dialog is what I’ll be playing for, excited to hear it’s been expanded to be even more ridiculous!
This review, and the line from Polygon’s impressions (“This game respects your choices, not your time”) reminded me why I didn’t finally click with the first game until I bought it again on Switch, many years after its release. Once I could pick it up and put it down with ease, quickly resuming where I left off, those…
Say what you will, but most of this review and the one at AV Club, in spite of the glowing and faint praise respectively, makes me want to do anything but play this game. A lot of these mechanics sound incredibly obnoxious for anyone who doesn’t have practically unlimited time on their hands.
