They’ve also been pretty safe since then too. No-one had died in a racing situation in the 21 years between Senna and Bianchi (and both were relative “flukes”).

I don’t think the F1 thong device would have saved Dan Wheldon or Jules Bianchi. Maybe Justin Wilson though.
