Sorry, I should clarify; I think he brake-checker slowed down before he brake-checked just by coasting slower. At least that’s what it looked like to me.

I'm not saying what he should have done - I'm not sure there's a good solution in any of his. But I never slow down when I brake check, and I don't slow down to irritate other drivers. That said, I don't go faster than I am comfortable driving just because someone is behind me, either.

I should clarify here. To me, a “brake check” is where you use your left foot to show the tail-lights without slowing down. If you’re actually decelerating with a rapid reduction in speed, you're an idiot.
