Star Wars, the original trilogy, IS racist. Not overtly or deliberately of course...but in the same way as Tolkien and Lewis were racist, and that’s part of the problem.

Except one could just as easily argue that two siblings raised in the same home both coming out as trans points to something in the way they were raised or another environmental factor.

I think we should respect gay/trans people even if any or all aspects of their identity were a matter of choice. Never agreed with “born this way” as the basis on which to demand rights and respect.

On the other hand, look how they handled their own narrative in the Matrix sequels.

That said, you can’t ignore the context with which a Jewish person(and especially one of his age) is likely to use the word. To him Ghetto means something specific and I don’t think he can only use it in a past tene. To him a “ghetto” isn’t just “that’s where the poor people live” it’s “that’s where an oppressed

To be fair I think there’s a distinction between saying “ghetto” and saying a shitty neighbourhood or a tenement. White people certainly know what it’s like to be poor and obviously there’s economic segregation but isn’t he right that white people probably don’t know what it’s like to be ghettoized?

When an old Polish-American Jewish guy can’t say “ghetto”, you realize how much times have changed.

I think Rihanna blue-balling Drake might be my sexual orientation...

Meh. I didn’t know of her before. And now we have her name and a sound byte from her (and none from the other activists who did “talk[] shit out”) reinforcing that this country has been complicit in anti-black police violence. A position that probably no one attending would have stepped up to say amid the Obama glow.

This is Bill Bradley’s best chance.

I am a black mom and have this conversation with my children’s teachers at the start of every school year. I usually print a recent article addressing systemic racism in the classroom and suggest we work together to ensure that my kids are not subjected to it. Teachers generally sputter and a few have cried, but I

She’s probably talking about restorative justice programs. I’m having trouble doing links on my phone, but it’s a concept that’s been reducing suspension and drop-out rates across the country. While critics deride the idea of students - and sometimes faculty - talking things out, it turns out that if you encourage

I want to learn more about what kind of program she’s talking about. Maybe she’s talking about bringing in counselors, specialists, and educators who are understanding and culturally sensitive and have a track record 0f taking students seriously and following through with these students’ concerns when students say

That and maybe reform education bills to expressly forbid 'zero-tolerance' style disciplinary measures in schools.

I think it’s obviously implied to be sucking his own dick.

Get lost with the “selfish” shit.

I’m not going to jump to any conclusions until I have all the facts, but it appears that Eisenhauer made two mistakes. The first is that he senselessly and maliciously murdered a 13 year old girl. The second is that he did not attempt to run from the police.
