If it’s a timing belt it was most likely replaced due to age. The water pump may as well be replaced since I’m sure it’s only accessible after taking off the belt.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this a couple years ago. Shelby fans may be disappointed because, as mentioned, this book is like 90% Morton’s autobiography and 10% about Shelby, but I like Morton and his approachable writing style.
