Rotaries weren’t singled out. Anything that wasn’t a 3.5L V10 was banned. So Jaguar V12s, Nissan and Porsche turbos were out too.

I think a better comparison would be a V12 from the SA22's era. There’s a big technology gap between the Aventador and even an FD.

At full throttle the fuel economy of a rotary is not that different from a recip. Ceramic apex seals and cermet coated housings sure help a lot for a 24 hour race.

The Turbo II’s had a tougher transmission and rear end. This car does have an appropriate T-56, but it’s rolling dice on the rear if hard launches are done.
