Yeah, Fire and Blood goes into a fair amount of detail on the dragon population and even when the Targaryens were firmly in power, there weren’t that many of them. The largest number of them at one time IIRC was around 7, I think? Maybe we’ll get a swelling population in book 2, but that seems unlikely

They were all present for the Field of Fire, and I believe there was maybe one more when Balerion and Meraxes were both involved, but I can’t think of it right off the top of my head.

Those bolts are perhaps the laziest addition to date. The amount of energy it would take to fling something like those giant bolts that far, that fast, would be insane. The bolt thrower would explode way before that much tension was created.
