Seriously, I remember Cinema Sins saying something to the effect of how Johnson’s commitment to upsetting audience expectations infected the movie like a disease, and man, that really resonates.

Hard agree. I walked out of TLJ thinking “That was okay. Except for the first time in my life I have no interest in the next Star Wars movie.”
Actually no, it’s mostly my friends and coworkers. People online seem to be 50/50 on TLJ, with a select few on both ends who are way too vocal.
I feel like Disney is learning the wrong lesson here.
Aww come on. We just need the Obi-wan film. Put the rest on hold, just make the Kenobi movie.
Discovery? I dunno, lack of character development, bad editing, bad direction, bad science, unnecessary and easy to see coming plot twists, empty fanservice in some places while at the same time ditching big chunks of canon, etc.
Different times. Running concurrently with TNG and then Voyager allowed DS9 to exist in a world where the major Federation ideals were represented in full elsewhere. This gave DS9 a chance to peak into the shadows and explore the edges of those ideals, specifically in the situation of a long drawn-out war. It earned…
Perhaps it’s the show’s obvious shame and self-loathing at all the things that people like about Star Trek? That’s what it is for me.
E- the point of it being impressive now is it’s Keith doing it. It’s a high end Black Lion move that only manifests when Lion and Paladin are fully bonded. So after all these seasons of Keith moping about being worthy and not being able to fill Shiro’s shoes, it is indeed a big moment.
There is NO reason they don’t go with the Immortal Weapons aside from hewing to the bullshit overarching plot they’ve been pushing from the beginning. GOD that story’s so good
Yeah. Treating him like he was an idiot child made him about as tolerable as he could be.
Yes! He would just throw his hands up and irritably answer “Fine, whatever, I don’t care” to every single question.
Add Colleen Wing, whose story doesn’t even have to intersect with Ward’s, and the series could be salvaged, even marvelous.
Danny’s been gone for 15 years, he should already be the Iron Fist, but he is far from it. Your suggestion could salvage the terrible decisions they made with season 1. He didn’t completely suck in Defenders, and even had the hit of the season when he shattered Elektra’s sword without touching it- that should have…
I read the bad reviews of Iron Fist, and the whole idea just sounded like a train wreck so I skipped it. Then, after watching Defenders and even though Danny was entirely irritating in it, I decided to give Iron Fist a go. I don’t think I even got through the first episode. It was excruciating. Like if Ed Wood made a…
Just have the entire panel be an evening with Ward Meachum.
S2ep1, scene 1
I thought Danny worked really well in Defenders because the other characters were constantly dunking on him. It actually made him sympathetic.
Yeah, it was pretty obvious that Lotor’s two ships had arms and legs on them. Hopefully we’ll get more cool robot vs robot (or “ro-beast”) battles in the future. Vehicle Voltron (AKA Dairugger XV) actually had the better enemy designs as far as robots go.
My mom beat the shit out of a mountain lion about 25 years ago. It was killing a neighbor’s chickens. My brother was absolutely terrified. It’s her proudest moment, I think.
