I for one really appreciate this post and the ongoing "Featured Desktop" postings. Not all of them are my cup of tea of course, but it is nice to see what can be done with some of these desktop customization tools, and even if I don't care for an overall desktop I often get "ideas" from them.

@njdevil: Rainmeter doesn't replace your desktop shell. You run it and you get Enigma or any other skin you download or create (and you WILL be creating your own cool desktops, it's easy) on your existing desktop. Turning it off is as easy as using "exit" from the context menu, and uninstalling it is one double

@chapoec: Fair enough as far as I am concerned. I use AdBlock Plus to eliminate distracting, animated flash advertising and other things that I just won't put up with when browsing. A site or service also has the right to say, "We pay for this with ad revenue, so if you are going to block them we don't have any

Yeah, I get "FreeWheel AdManager fault: Security sandbox error" instead of your embed Kevin... ;-)

Nice idea. I'm disappointed that it adds a toolbar that you can't remove. "Cannot remove the last IB toolbar". It should be something you can toggle on and off like StumbleUpon when you want / need it.

You don't really think having Microsoft Sam read your new novel in a monotone robotic voice with absolutely no inflection (while pronouncing every third word incorrectly) is a good way to see how your opus flows and how coherent it is do you? ;-)

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Nothing but background noise. #twitter

Agree completely in most respects. I do run a real time antivirus however, as I think it is not only a free, low impact way to be a bit safer, but IS BEING A GOOD NET CITIZEN. It is the fault of the many who take advice like this that let viruses run rampant on the internet.

The question for me wasn't so much "What about Win7 would make me move from XP?" as "What about XP would make me stay there?" I think I can afford to pay for an OS upgrade every eight years, so it isn't that. The answer was "Nothing". Win7 has been a joy since January with the earliest betas and I have never looked

I never watch commercial if I can help it. #tv

Then you can go download most of them again and install anyway, as half the versions on the screenshot are not the most current available. #installer
