I grew up in Maine, got a wonderful liberal education there, participated in anti-Iraq war protests, worked with a bunch of Howard Dean supporting hippies at a vegetarian restaurant/art gallery.

There is a HUGE cultural divide between northern and southern Maine. Southern Maine is growing more diverse all the time and is incredibly progressive.
