I think his point is fair, though it’s totally a straw-man.
The problem is that, right or wrong, consumer product “press” are made up of enthusiasts. Let’s not confuse this group of “journalists” with the White House press corps. The applause that you get at a VW press conference is the same applause you get an an iPhone announcement: it’s excitement for new products.

As you point out, the concept of the paleo diet is “don’t eat anything a caveman couldn’t eat,” not “don’t eat anything a caveman wouldn’t eat.”
“Did no one tip them off that the people who still remember the Eclipse coupe fondly don’t care about crossover boom?”
I did, which I succinctly summarized in the second sentence. What you seemed to say, and please correct me if I’m wrong, is that if the companies with the property don’t follow your morals and ethics (or even the laws), then you shouldn’t have to either.
So you like to just, sort of, make up the rules as you go along, making your own determinations of what’s right and what’s wrong. If it’s a small company, you treat them “right.” Big companies get the shaft from you. If they break the law (in some vague, unspecific or verified manner), so can you.
