Thank you for chiming in Dr. Ophir. To your second example, I believe there were some surveys recently attributing major climate-driven events (e.g. the wildfires out west) to an increase in climate change “belief” (I don’t remember exactly what they were asking respondents). Maybe wildfire is more novel and attention

The bees also live solo, and don’t have the defensive, stinging tendencies of their hive-dwelling relatives.

Yep. I suspect it is more a symptom of the greater trend towards polarization and tribalism in modern American politics. There’s been a slew of new takes here in Florida that one new path for Republicans in purple areas is to talk only about climate adaptation, but not really mention the root of the problems because

There was a recent paper which (IIRC) suggested anti-vaxx beliefs tended to be from people who fell into the Dunning-Kruger camp (i.e. “I think I know more than I do”) vs. beliefs like climate change denial which is better explained by partisan identity.

Newsflash: most lots of things in the world are inherently political. Even the most basic research deals with securing funding (often public $), working with a research team, interpreting, communicating & defending your findings, etc. all of which have political aspects.

We often hear that the U.S. Republican Party is the only mainstream/right-wing party who doesn’t believe in climate change, see it as a threat, etc. Some pretty convincing evidence that is the case among those surveyed...Republicans are less inclined than the populist far-right in Europe to think climate change is a

Gah, sorry. I meant KJo, not SJP.

That’s fair. I felt that the drama of Manila’s elimination (and the ridiculously overdramatic rock, paper, scissors) made a great start...but after that main challenges and a drab runway, I was completely tuned out by deliberation time.

The other problem with the scripted challenges is that, unless they do so poorly to edit around, the roles pretty much telegraph how well a queen could place. Because no amount of acting could have placed any roles but SJP and Kim in the top this week...

Yeah, I very much disagree with this rating because this was a boring as hell episode. Like, scripted acting challenges are almost always a scattering of cringey puns or references that fall flat, and the acting can be an absolute train wreck (Shakesqueer)...but even compared to the last several this one was just DULL.

I’ve seen plenty of aquarium Ancistrus, but none that look like what’s in the header photo...

It’s like you completely missed repeated mentions of working with communities, labor, AND private industry/businesses...or you didn’t actually read it and just posted a pithy strawman comment instead ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I skimmed the Lancet report, but I think it has more to do with them being high carb foods than any particular environmental effect, so it’s more nutritional to replace with other foods. But it was also mentioned that under high CO2 scenarios, plants tend to become more starchy and less protein-y, so maybe also to

Between UKS and Crazy-Ex both doing “Cats” episodes, I feel confident that it’s the one musical I am ok never seeing...

Yeah, I liked Latrice’s runway because it was so different for her but...I don’t think she was top 2 based on the club challenge, and her win was only because Trinity did well *that* during the lip sync.

Macho Man and Love Shack, too

Nathaniel has never really been my favorite, but when he started tearing up in the restaurant and his voice cracked, it felt...so sincere and heartbreaking.
