This is a pilot project by its already showing serious potential. All of that is powered by the (shown on left) 100w solar panel. Using a tiny air pump to drive tiny blurbs of water all over this hydroponic setup. I’ve currently got about 1/5th capacity that I know I can handle in there. Since its start 4 months ago,

Let’s get onboard closing down big agricultural subsidies, make them pay a premium on the water and carbon expenditures it takes to make too much nutritionless plebe-meal.

The problem with desalination is that, with current technologies, it is both very expensive and VERY power hungry, which also requires lots of water.

The problem isn’t the brine, the problem is the energy. We would barely increase the salinity of the ocean at all - especially considering that the water would mostly end up back in the ocean after it drains anyway.

Looking at the federal proposals from the President and Congress over the last two months has me convinced that we simply pull numbers out of our butts when doing cost estimates.

Figure out where to put all the toxic brine that your plan will produce and you’ve solved the problem.

Heres a better idea, how about we simply STOP delivering clean water, and vacinations and sewage service and so forth to all the conservatives who believe we dont need them? Then the rest of us can pitch in a get on with our lives as a UNITED Country.

Maybe we could just cut GE’s next five years of corporate tax refunds in half and use that money to fund both the Zika and water projects?

This already happens in San Diego where we purchase our water. Unfortunately, we are in a water crisis at the state level so even though we are paying for it, we aren’t allowed to use it.

Companies do NOT pay taxes. They simply pass on the costs to the consumer.

Without a doubt. Make the true cost of living/producing in a desert fall on the shoulders of those that do so.

Yes!!! For something that is essential to every citizen it’s amazing how little we spend on water. We’ve become so accustomed to water just being there and being relatively safe that we don’t truly understand what actually goes into protecting, cleaning and getting water to customers. I know this isn’t exactly in line

Why not let the Invisible Hand Of The Free Market handle the whole “clean water” issue? Just turn off all municipal water systems and let major corporations sell water to the (soon to be literally) unwashed masses. Of course, said corporations would be given free access to the fresh water sources as well as tax

...to their residents INCLUDING corporations.

So refreshing to read a lot of positive comments instead of the usual snark. I thought this was great and would also like to see more of it.

Wait, do most people really drink water straight out of the tap without filtering it?

If you’re drinking straight from the tap, at the very least get faucet filtration system. Around $20, plus a few filter changes a year. No excuse not to.

I believe any accelerating mass would produce a gravitational wave, right? We look for massive objects accelerating violently because that’s the only way the magnitude is remotely measurable.
