I haven’t heard a lot of talk about equal opportunity lately.
It has all been about “equity” which seems a lot more concerned about equality of outcome.

I went to where my friend was working as a clerk, and bought $4.50 worth of stuff... then paid with a $2 bill, a Susan B Anthony dollar, an Eisenhower dollar, and a fifty cent piece. He spent about 3 seconds just staring at the money I handed him, then called me an asshole :)
If you read the linked article the sheriff says “They made a statement that they did not like white people and they were only going to rob white people.”
You may choose to believe that the sheriff is lying about the suspect(s) having said that, but if he isn’t, then that would be a pretty strong indicator of racial…
Sicily is a pretty good example too, really. The British got the more heavily defended, more geographically constricted route up the east coast of the island that was also the shortest one to Messina, while the Americans were used to clear the more lightly defended, but much larger remainder of the island.
Could be.
Could also be that she wants too much money to come back.
If we’re just counting miles, then the Americans were far more successful than the British in Sicily, Normandy overall, and in France as a whole. The problem with doing so is, of course, that terrain and resistance matters a lot.
“Daenerys, who is impervious to fire, was born with the ability to ride dragons and was gifted at birth with dragon eggs that would eventually hatch.”
Fifth Element Style? It would have its advantages, but imagine the disadvantages. Just a few off the top of my head :
1) The tech to do this safely and reliably just isn’t there. There is a reason Anesthesiologists have one of the higher malpractice insurance costs in the industry.
2) In an emergency, one wouldn’t be…
People might be less inclined to NIMBY if -all- the neighborhoods in the city got a share of the homeless camps, tiny houses, section 8 housing, and so on, rather than these things always getting put into (relatively) poor neighborhoods.
Special taxes for ‘unused housing’?
One wonders if only entirely empty houses/apartments will be included, or if the city will decide that anyone with a spare bedroom needs to rent it out or be punished...
Do you know what was the neighbor’s actual complaint and/or issue?
My dad worked for a conservative insurance company for 20 years after getting out of the navy. They required 3 piece suits (worn in their entirety at all times) year round. He wasn’t even working with customers... he was one of their computer guys.
The question isn’t what morons one works with, but what assholes…
Has anyone tried a test to see if this “attire” thing really is aimed at just women? Get a male reporter to go in wearing flip-flops and a tank top, and see how far he gets.
Local demographics doesn’t mean as much for things in NYC, what, with it being “the big time” that draws aspirants from all over the country and/or world.
I dunno, I’ve seen advertisements on the side of the bus in my city calling for police applicants. Still, just because they advertise publicly, doesn’t mean those ‘walk ins’ have the inside track to being hires.
“If they did that, there wouldn’t be enough cops left.”
Sounds like a giant employment opportunity to me. And one with a real possibility of creating actual change in our society, if those who don’t like how the police currently operate step up to fill those jobs.
Bench is pretty much all upper body, isn’t it?
She’s a woman.
Convicted blacks get 20% more time than convicted whites, but convicted men get 60% more time than convicted women.
Go ahead and look up gender disparity in sentencing.
If only he had been a woman, then he’d get 2 years tops, and maybe even be able to do that time from home as a mental health outpatient...
Middle Class.
