This attitude isn’t limited to (male?) bosses. Some people (often women!) seem to think that those of us who are single/childless need to work shittier, longer hours for the same pay and without any improved prospects for promotion so that people with children can have more and more convenient time for their kids.

I was expecting the “engaged but not married yet... She’s probably gonna be taking time off to have kids in the next few years, then want flex time, no overtime, reduced hours, or maybe just quit all together” reasoning.

Being a man might work against him. In federal cases, at least, men get much longer sentences for the same crime. I dunno if this disparity happens in state cases too.

I’ve noticed these ‘sitting rooms’ in a number of older building’s women’s restrooms. I’ve always assumed they were there so ladies overcome by the vapors, tight corsets, or what have you, could have a little rest without creating a public scene that the men would then have to be solicitous about.

Reminds me of the Wonder Woman trailer comment thread (http://jezebel.com/the-new-wonder… ) where there was considerable discussion/complaint about how there weren’t any P.O.C. soldiers shown in the W. Europe trench warfare scenes.

Or to ruin a poor, confused woman’s life over a little bit or rape. Sure, female offenders are less numerous than male ones, but the courts are even more lenient toward them. IIRC, women receive about half the time that men do for the same offence. on average.

No, not only whites. Just 90% whites. But yes, we obviously need to spend at least 90% of our effort celebrating the contributions of that other 10%. That seems fair, considering past efforts to ignore that 10%...

I don’t think anyone is saying that African Americans didn’t see combat in WWI. I think they’re saying that they made up a pretty small percentage of the number of Americans who saw combat overall, so it would seem forced to have Wonder Woman just happen to be in that relatively small section of the trenches where…

Yes, half a million. But out of how many soldiers overall? (Answer, about 8.1 million overall for France.. so Africans made up about 7% But it seems that we’re supposed to ignore the 93% in favor of the 7% for some reason)

France called pretty heavily on colonials, but insanely heavily on white Frenchmen. About 500,000 colonials served France in WWI (and that’s a lot!) but about 7,500,000 white Frenchmen did too. So POC made up about 7% of France’s total deployment.

The US deployed about 200,000 African American troops to Europe in WWI, out of a total deployment of 2,000,000. And, as you said, the great majority of the AA troops were in support roles, rather than front line infantry roles, so they would be unlikely to show up in a scene set in the trenches.

In absolute terms, yeah, a lot of POC served in WWI. But a lot more white men did. Yes, the USA had ~200,000-400,000 African American troops (sent to Europe vs served overall), but that was in an overall force of 4,500,000. Yes, France had ~500,000 POC who served, but France deployed around 8,000,000 men overall. The…

POC soldiers served in the trenches, at least in the French army. Or so I assume from the number tombstones I saw in the cemeteries of small towns NE of Paris that had Algerian names, the epithet “Died for France”, and dates from 1914 to 1918.

4-8% of US servicemen in WWI were African Americans. About 5% of France’s troops in Europe were colonials. I didn’t find numbers for the British, who used colonial troops extensively (mostly Indian) but they mostly did not use them on the western front.
