Sure, but WWII was an even worse time - purges, pogroms, famines, genocide, firebombing, and the only ever use of atomic weapons in war. The idea that WWI is somehow untouchable has always seemed odd - how is that war worse or more delicate than the one where millions of civilians were murdered?

This makes me more and more horrified by Warren Ellis’ genius - he even predicted that Fred Christ would be a major influence on a monstrous president.
