California is a state that’s well worth moving out of, though. Between the downright psychotic real estate prices, the PUDs (and the puds who run their HOAs) everywhere, and the being California, there are plenty of compelling reasons to move to the Silver State.
Living in California I found it very easy to avoid a HOA. Don’t buy in areas where every house is identical or on a golf course seems to be a good way of avoiding them.
Where do you live in CA? In Los Angeles, I can only name a couple neighborhoods with HOAs, and those are ones like Mulholland Estates and other gated neighborhoods which the normals can’t afford.
