Well. No. Not enough demand over the whole net. The only way this would work would be to tax the tar out of inter-city driving (and Jalopniks would like that, yes?). Moving tons of freight slowly is a good use of fuel/energy - moving a few people at high speed is not. Economics rules , as always.
