I think you undervalue your time and the number of errands it will take to do a full rebuild. If you want a reliable driver to run errands for other projects, the rebuilt install will get you there faster... on the other hand you might get 3 or 4 columns out of the unanticipated mistakes and do-overs  :)

I put a 47 Chevy back together and did not key the flywheel right. My dad could watch the valves and feel the piston with a screwdriver to find TDC and set the distributor for #1 ( and knew the firing order) and bingo-running. I learned that day that everything man- made was designed and assembled by bozoz just like

Nothing more satisfying than pressure washing the s**t out of anything so you can start over with doing it right. I once bought a house from lifetime smokers and PW,d the entire inside ; then burned all the furniture, drapes and carpets.

The best ones are the ones that are so camouflaged you didn’t even see them.

The roofs are invisible to cameras...

40ish Ford school bus/ cookshack ( flathead’ crash box, power nothin) on logging roads to fire sites to feed ravenous fire crews... from the era of throwing ya into jobs you had to do. Or the giant articulated loader/ scraper stuck in reverse- backing down the mountain 35 milesto the shop...learned to back up, tho.

There’s no word on price, but when you figure that the differentials alone are at least $12,000, you get the sense that this truck, hand-built out of heavy-duty components, must run somewhere around $150,000 or maybe even higher.

Like everybody below says, that is a really terrible idea. When and where?

still way bs better than Kinja. So many ads, articles that are really ads, jumping videos- nearly unusable now. ID write on some user page, but you don’t have one.

Hi,there. I do love your keen analysis of junk of all kinds- but I have to check out. Kinja/Jalopnik has become so ad-heavy with videos, ads between words, and articles that are really ads as to become unusable. Thanks and bye.

For the record, the levee is the dirt dike that holds back the river or lake, so it was never dry, the water body was dry. And a levy is a tax. The true American Pie chevy was a 55 2 door - not a truck.

Lots of reviewers call BS- either counterfeited or 256 Gb chips with faults. Buyer Beware.

Nix air cooled VW vans- they are mostly 30 odd years old so maintenance all day long- even good ones. But, later Eurovans maybe, and who forgot the everlasting Chrysler vans? And finally, Honda Oddysey or Toyota Sienna vans for reliable, comfy volume.l

Maybe this is the time - David?- for some Jalop writer to look into how we are supposed to deal wisely with the increasing number of giant trucks out there.

Totally who cares.

This entire thread is misaddressed. It belongs on mehcars.com. Jalops discuss smoke, noise, and misbehaving, not adequacy.

Now wait a minute. Things that used to take care of themselves now have to be managed and sorted every time they are used? Next you’ll need a password...

Well - Boeing used to be run by engineers. But now they are financiers and stock managers...

MB lawyers searching through old paper files in a bunker...”ya, that was never licensed for sale or release” CP and threatening letters...

Similar cheap thrills can be found at your local unlimited hydroplane races, where a few diehards still use WWII aero V-12's with open pipes.
