It does look better. The question is did it really need this? You do have diminishing returns coming into play here. The original, despite being a late gen PS3 game, still looks good, and it’s PS4 remaster even better.

Every time someone expresses a lack of enthusiasm for something or has a debate online, there's always someone to project their own emotional immaturity to the situation and insist someone is angry.

This game must have prevented layoffs,

I’m not angry. I’m wryly amused at the executive of a company known for mistreating its workers using a project that is an entirely known quantity from the beginning as a disingenuous example of supposed improved working conditions as though that’s not an intentionally misleading apples/oranges comparison.

How about if people want it you not go out of your way to dissuade people out of wanting to be excited about it by feeding negativity.

My favorite part of this whole deal is ND crowing about how this game was made “without crunch.”

I keep coming back to threads talking about it, seeing comparison pics and more with an open mind (or at least trying to), but every time I just keep coming away with the conclusion it seems like such an unnecessary remake. The resources put to work here would’ve been better used on pretty much any other project.

Oh boy, I can’t wait to spend $70 on this because what The Last of Us was missing to make it truly extraordinary was some bay windows...

I really cannot tell the difference. They’re trying to spin this like it’s on the level of the FFVII Remake, it just isn’t.

I am extremely, vitriolically opposed to Gamergate, and if you can go far enough into my posting history here or on Reddit you can verify that for yourself

aggressively woke

I mean, fair point overall. I won’t let a single review change my mind, but I will let this information temper my expectations. Kotaku is generally a shadow of its former self, and maybe even a shadow of that shadow. Agree that that is primarily what I come here for also. That said, John is one of the more intentional

OR....A game is sorta advertised as one vibe/thing and having it change into something else midway sucks if you aren’t into whatever it is....Heaven forbid someone puts it out there as a warning to potential buyers to open up a discussion. Sorry you play games and have rose tinted glasses on everything you buy.

This is like if Untitled Goose Game shifted to a JRPG at the halfway point where you now have to save the world from some ultra-powerful behind the scenes entity that had been manipulating the residents of Goosetown into its cult all along and you had to defeat him with QTE goose antics.

Shooting and killing things doesn’t have to be part of something being a video game

middle 1/3 of the game is an absolute disaster, and I would have contemplated walking too (or cheating) just to blow past it. If the team learned one thing from LaD’s development, I hope it’s to improve the pacing relative to our consumption of the story (which really is why we’re all here).

I really enjoyed this game on Game Pass right up until I didn’t. Mainly, it was just too long.  I think I got a solid 60 hours in before I stopped. It kinda reminded me of DQ7 where they don’t even introduce the job system until about 20 hours in. I’m hoping the next game is a little more balanced out in terms of

It’s a well documented fact that “medieval shit” was invented by From Software.   Before that all media only had future stuff and cavemen.

Seconded. I work on disability rights professionally, and this kind of lack of accessibility is the bane of my existence. I can hear, and I still want captions for videos like this - it just makes them easier to watch.

Dear Kotaku, if you are not going to include accessibility options in your videos (i.e. subtitles) can you, at the very least, provide a transcript? I’d ask this any time of the year but it feels especially egregious that this didn’t occur to anyone this week.
