I find it a bit off-putting as well, but despite the Steam marketplace having a global reach, the overwhelming majority of these games are developed in a country with different cultural norms. I believe it is. The brutality and intensity is completely necessary for the kind of game they’re making. If you’re horrified and bothered by the violence it means they’re doing their jobs right.
