Beyond them already having a prior connection with Ford engines. Ford has a presence in Great Britain whereas GM does not. Taxes there are also based on displacement. Even if the LT1 is smaller, lighter weight, gets better fuel economy, etc., it will get penalized just because it has more displacement.
