In many cases, the compass direction that the crosswalk is going, is what determines the sound a crosswalk makes. I can’t recall precisely at the moment, but there’s a chirping, or cuckoo tone, dictated by the aforementioned compass directions. It’s extremely helpful, when it’s actually used.

The rumble strips are intended to awaken drivers that accidentally doze off while driving. In no way are they intended for blind drivers, which are seriously not a good idea in the first place.
