Norway actually is the world leader in whaling. More then both Japan and Iceland combined.

I didn't like whale. Like you, I try to try things once, for the most part, and my like biggest fear would be that I would love whale and never be able to have it again. I completely agree with your description. It had the texture of beef but a fishy aftertaste and I was not a fan.
