If you’re going to strip a door down that far, it’s a perfect time to add noise deadening spray or film! Kind of like replacing a water pump along with a timing belt. The hard part is done , do two jobs at once.

I had a 2002 1.8t Jetta . Flogged it for 140k miles. 1 alternator , 1 water pump. I did have to get coil packs and window clips under warranty , but both repairs were done once and gave no further problem.

Pass those leaf springs on to your friendly knife maker. Good steel when re heat treated, and very desirable.

Another source of degradation is cam wear. When the lobes wear down, you have less lift and duration. Chevy 305's are notorious for this( the factory got a big shipment of soft cams).
