Kind of off-topic, but I would love to see a Cayman Targa.

I would suggest a retired Dodge Charger Police car. They’re available with AWD, they’re sturdy, they’re spacious, and its not a crossover.
Its true that a new engine would be more than its worth, but its cheaper than buying a new car.
It better have a built-in vacuum cleaner, like the top of the range Honda Odyssey.

I doubt they’ll bring Hummer back. Once they’ve got vehicles ready to be put on sale, gas prices will spike and nobody would be interested. Then again, GM has never been good at learning from their mistakes.
So, you want a car that’s cheap ’n’ cheerful. May I recommend a Ford Crown Victoria? Lots of police departments still use them, and for good reason. They’re sturdy cars that just keep going.
EV’s aren’t that reliable. The battery packs degrade over time, usually only lasting around 10 years. This EV only has another 2 years left until it dies and probably gets junked. $5495 is too much for what is essentially a beater.
Why the heck are crossovers being recommended? They’re the most pretentious vehicles you can buy.
Checker is the best.
Don’t like it. The best retro Mercedes was the W212, and that’s because it used an angular, slightly boxy look, as opposed to actually copying the design of the W124
The Dart felt acceptable for build quality, but the reliability was quite bad. Same goes for the Journey, except at least the Dart was decent to drive.
At this point, the Lx-platform is to Chrysler what the Panther-platform was to Ford. Next year, it will see its third decade.
You must have got a bad one. That Mercedes transmission is very strong. So much so that they still use it in police versions of the Charger, while civilian models get the ZF 8-speed.
The Challenger handles well. Sure, a Mustang or Camaro handles better when your driving at ten-tenths, but the Challenger isn’t too far off. More comfortable too.
The reason that Chrysler still has a poor reputation for build quality is because the Dart is still in recent memory, and the Journey they’re still making. The Lx-bodies are solid cars.

If you think about it, the Grand Caravan is the perfect family car.
Lets look at this article. Even if EV’s are slightly better for the environment than ICE cars, its not significant enough to solve any environmental problems. Pollution from non-renewable powerplants is a bigger issue.
Disagree on your build quality comment. The plastics inside aren’t the nicest, but they’re not really any worse than the Mustang, and the fit and finish is good. The V8 versions are pretty reliable too.
