I REALLY liked the first Dark Horse Predator arcs that are are collected in the first omnibus, but I was probably 10 or 12 the last time I read them. I did reach out to 1992 me for clarification, and he confirmed they were indeed 'radical.'

WE'RE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS HERE, PEOPLE!
I DID like that the only way to effect the people is to destroy the satellites and interrupt whatever they're doing on their phones. Didn't mind any of the stuff, but really wasn't that great of an issue minus me like sweet ol' Batman looking at Carrie lovingly. The light politics and the work in the minis does make…
Happy Birthday dude!
EVERY BATGIRL I'm about to cut it, but I feel bad telling the local clerk so I just take it and go home and read it.
I think I've come to terms with the BKV style- it's incredibly reliant on splashes and reveals and cliffhangers to push plot and advance story vs. dialogue or exposition. I had trouble getting into Saga originally because of that- it felt truffle-y and not very sustenant.
It all comes down to whether you like said…
He joined St. Vincent on backup Jab.
This new Train single really takes me back ~~~
'Hey VH1 - you know that new sound you're lookin' for?!?'
I've been enjoying this series, though it does have that No Country for Old Men / Everyone's Gonna Die and Nothing Will Resolve in a Positive Peaceable Way vibe. The art's quasi-realist bent makes the violence and gore really stick with you; I always have to cleft my pallete with lighter fare afterward so I don't go…
I've really enjoyed the art and style of the new Doctor Strange so far, even if it hasn't completely floored me. I'm still waiting for a full hang-out issue at the magic pub. Maybe they get snowed in and have to entertain themselves until the storm subsides?
I'm trying to play catchup comics history in between new…
Re: Wic+Div- I've come to that same realization with Phonogram. I could barely make it through the last issue- just really feels like it's barely strung together. Similar to the Ales Kot comment I've made, I get the feeling I would rather read Gillen's blog or song list than read it in comic form.
Ha- posted the same thing above! Clunky lyric writing or bad rhythm will totally derail me, whereas knowing the song is almost irrelevant.
I'm finally getting around to The Watchmen and Moore made great use of You're My Thrill in the scene between Nite Owl and Silk Spectre. Talk about extraneous narration/framing for scenes- yowza this book! 5 levels to every panel.
I feel like growing up reading old Mad Magazines has helped me work through the 'parody lyrics to song I don't know' struggles, but I'm a musician so it does irk me when the lyrics are clunky or don't fit the rhythm. I'd much rather have it be a music cue I don't know how to fill in than have it be a butchering of…
Magilla the Gorilla is back- in POG form!
Wacky Races does intrigue- it's such a comic book-y concept, but I don't know how they'd pull it off. Fingers Crossed this somehow leads to a Dick Dastardly/Muttley spinoff series.
I've been thinking of the Planet Voorl spread but had totally forgotten about those flashbacks- Brutal!
Grayson was silly but fun this week. I wish they had gotten back into some deep intrigue, but enjoyed the View to a Kill-isms. Duran Duran would have paired nicely.
Omega Men was fantastic as usual and was probably the pick of the week. Every time I think I'm not quite remembering or understanding something in the…
I came across Puma Blues reading about the Diamond dispute during some wiki wormhole and wondered why I had never heard of it. Was capital S-Stoked it had just been collected in a beautiful hardcover. It's been really great so far- I would highly recommend to anyone interested in it. I read 'existentialist new-age…
When the Pixies got together the first time I went to see them at the local megampitheatreplex with a bunch of friends and had some of those misgivings about the whole thing. But when I was laying there on the grass drinking wine and they kicked into Where is my Mind- full on boomer nostalgia twinges. Maybe that was…
We'll see how Paul Sparta's up the mix, but I thought that Antemasque record was an interesting idea of what ATDI might be up to nowadays- same frantic energy, but going for an 80's Rush vs. 90s Fugazi.
