When Kotaku reported on one of the lead guys working on the Oculus Rift died after getting hit by a car, did you think to yourself "Look at Kotaku, suggesting that the gaming industry is being targeted by drivers, car fatalities happen everywhere!"?

Both drives allowed slip for variations in speed and were mostly passive during play. The capstan is what made the tape move at a uniform speed since it rotated uniformly. That's why (a) you got snarls when the takeup reel stuck and (b) the tape would jam sometimes if the feeder reel was miswound. Squeezing the case

I don't agree with you, but I do see what you're saying, unfortunately, this 'aesthetic' you mention is 100% subjective, and it may just be that the artist here thought the art represented that aesthetic just as much as you think the don't.

It's illustrating different aspects of the history of Middle Earth than Tolkien did himself, and I don't think it needs to capture his aesthetic anyway. There are plenty of wonderful illustrations of Middle Earth that Tolkien disliked.

The designer of this sweater wrote to us on Fashion It So and let us know the history behind this sweater! He said that BELINDA CARLISLE also had one.

You're assuming that everyone has the desire to convince. Some people do...I typically do and I'm in rather good mood today especially. But when you've heard certain things all of your life, sometimes you just want to eyeroll and walk away.

An old engineer I used to work with spent weeks at a time doing traverses out in the mountains, summer and winter. He would effectively camp out, hiking miles every day, packing all his equipment and gear on a mule while performing control surveys. One day when we were talking about doing some overnight GPS

Well, to be honest, as a gay man, if I were living in a country (or US state) that made it illegal for me to actually have sex, I would VIRTUALLY have sex in the privacy of my own home....even if it was just me and my computer. Fearing for one's safety isn't all that unusual so the statistic actually makes me

This drove me so insane I had to log in on my phone which was HARD. Retouching (for improved appearance of the subject) is not a modern day practice at all. Have you ever seen the re-touching done on photos of starlets from the 1920s, 30s and 40s? Long before photoshop, they were deleting wrinkles and freckles, adding

Not exactly, a planet with mass 2 x 3 times that of the Earth wouldn't necessarily have a gravity 2 or 3 times stronger than Earth's gravity, you also have to consider the radius of a planet.

Oh sure, but it wasn't relied upon as standard to the extent that's current.

It's a common misconception, but both "Sun" and "Sol" are proper names for the star earth orbits. Other stars can also have proper names (like Alpha Centauri), but only our star is called the Sun, or Sol, so it is improper to refer to other stars as "Suns", or other star systems as "Solar Systems".

If you dropped off before Spike got onto the show you are doing yourself a huge disservice. It seems like they realized they had gotten too dark and angsty with Connor (good to see him be just as whiney on Mad Men) and for the last couple of seasons it becomes an outright joy.

This relies on an interpretation where they truly loved each other, and their relationship was not just an escape from dreary lives or a complete set up they were manipulated into or they loving getting away with something or getting laid for once.

What? First the choco ration goes up, and now this? Such a doubleplusgood week in the news!

I don't understand how anyone can read 1984 and think its a romance. Or that it should be a romance.

I had the pleasure of posting something mildly successful on the internet once. It was my first ever flash animation that I uploaded to Newgrounds. I got front-paged, 13k views and a lot of feedback on something that was essentially a time-consuming first-year university project.

I never expected it to be noticed, much

No it isn't. The core market is much older. This behaviour is not age-specific, sadly.

I don't think it has anything to do with their enjoyment of the movie as a movie, it's just something they do in their spare time. Kind of like riffing, with science. Like figuring out the range speed and firepower of fictional starships, you kind of have to like something to waste time with that stuff.
