PEHVs generally check all of the boxes for most people: get me around on battery, reduce range anxiety, affordability.

That redesign was seriously bad. They really shot themselves in the foot on that one. I was actually in the market for a new car back in 2017 and was all but decided on a prius until I saw the new design. I didn’t bother with a test drive. U knew I could force myself to drive that thing every day.

I agree the PEHVs should have been the push all along. If you can show a person that they can do 90% of their driving on battery only and still have the ICE for their often-thought-of but never-done long range drives, they would be on board pretty fast. Good. Maybe now they’ll finally make something sensible that will sell with the right marketing message: an affordable PEHV that can get 90% of people to work an back on a charge, covering 90% of their typically driving, while also have a gas engine that eliminates range anxiety.
