I love how this show has used that recurring eyes-opening shot as a framing device from the beginning. First Eleanor waking up in The Good Place all the way back in the first shot of the show, bookended by the end of the s1 finale, then the remaining members of Team Cockroach (plus Janet) throughout this season, and

If there are only two dancers, and they are performing different moves, how is it possible to know which one is correct? I found Gaw’s explanation reasonably convincing. Did he make the wrong choice at the Superbowl? Hmmm. Is anyone looking for an interview with Right Shark?

I’m probably going to get crucified for this, but as stupid of an idea as this is there is a tiny quark of truth buried in it. There is a fringe element of intellectual and ideological totalitarianism that exists on the left: see the Jezebel feminists attacking Marget Atwood and Germaine Greer, the people who defend

Yeah I like Perkins’s recaps of “The Good Place” but I’ve long since given up on having any understanding of his SNL recaps. His opinions are so random they seem to be based on nothing more than how his most recent meal agreed with him. I’m not talking about the grade, but the actual content of the reviews. Anyone who

I feel like Bruno Mars is a really great performer, but not exactly a great musician. That guy has incredible energy and charisma on-stage, but his songs are just trite.

While I can tell that Mars is obviously talented, I hate his music so goddamn much.

I saw the Album of the Year nominees, and thought “Hey, almost all of these are pretty solid. As long as they don’t hand it to Bruno Mars, this will be pretty good.”

Once again, the Grammys prove why they’re the most inconsequential and predictable fucking awards show ever. Seriously, in what kind of just world would Ed Goddamn Sheeran win Best Pop Solo Performance over Lady Gaga and Kesha, let alone Bruno Mars sweeping the big three with his boring ‘90s novelty bullshit?

You are spot on. Ferrell is a dedicated sketch performer who takes each tone to different level. Like Phil Hartman, his dedication to the sketch and the character makes it that much more funnier. This was one of the best shows of the year, thanks to Ferrell. This review and reviewer doesn’t understand that.

Maybe toss in a virtually laughless self-created game show sketch about dealing with Trump to bump it up to a B+? You are correct, the grades definitely do seem intertwined with the wokeness level of the episode. The reviews really overanalyze this content as well.

‘Tis sad I have but one star to give; you echo my feelings. I would also like to mention how well the cast and Ferrell seemed to gel from moment one. I wrote my thoughts in a thread above but it is clear he came with his own ideas, while opting in wonderfully with some recurring spots. For someone who hasn’t

I was impressed how well the cast and Ferrell worked with each other and seemed to slide-in seamlessly and smooth from the start. It was clear Ferrell came with ideas/sketches while many hosts come with nothing and writing is started from day one around their perceived strengths. Except for the reality star piece

I laughed out loud more during this show than the rest of the season combined (a lot of comedy amuses me more than makes me laugh). Based on that alone I’d have given this episode a solid A.

I had a practically identical conversation about Aziz at a dinner of three couples out at a restaurant last weekend. I mean, they hit the notes of that conversation practically perfectly (in our case), other than the ending anyway. It cut pretty close to home, so I loved it.

It’s easy. Perkins grade exclusively based a checkmark list of shoehorned woke-ness featured in the ep. Last weeks ep was bumped 2 letter grades becauase one of the cast members wore a #metoo shirt.

I know that it is within the realm of Kinja to have an actual commenter grade poll at the end of each of these. Every week I think that same idea. Might even garner more clicks.

OMG this episode was a definite A, assuming last week with Chastain was a B+. I am shocked by this review. Very timely stuff...as good as SNL has ever been.

You realize that Beck & Kyle’s reality trope fest is a recurring sketch, right? Chris Hemsworth and Tracy Morgan have both played that third roommate.

This season has in general been shite, they coasted off of the election bump and awards from last years but forgot to actually write decent sketches.

Dennis, I usually agree with your reviews, but I feel like this season has rendered you considerably numb. This was the best episode of SNL in quite a while, if I may be so bold! It was just watching Ferrell’s energy get channeled into new and interesting premises (for the most part) instead of being the Wiig-esque
