More fun than driving a fast car slow

Driving in Italy is only truly dangerous for the tourist who doesn't think like an Italian driver.

As a wise man once said, "It's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow."

I've always wondered - do they standardize the tires for these time attacks, do they run on whatever rubber the manufacturer installs as stock, or do they run on whatever is on the particular examples that are provided on the day?

The St Laurence Seaway jump was the subject of a feature-length documentary called "The Devil at Your Heels", which attained cult status as one of the best unintentionally-funny docos of all time. It was almost impossible to find for a while, but now thanks to the National Film Board of Canada and the power of the

"5 square acres"? I can see why you're an automotive writer and not a surveyor. ;)

Sorry, I don't recall what year, but it was one of the earlier Melbourne GP's so it was probably Benneton - my memory is fuzzy on the details. It was the first turn of the first lap, with several cars involved, IIRC, but Schu was the only one who drove back onto the track.

The proposal has now been posted and public comments are open. Go to [www.regulations.gov]#!searchResults;rpp=25;po=0;s=NHTSA-2012-0038 and let your thoughts be known where they can actually have an impact.

If you read the proposal, they are leaving the implementation mode up to the manufacturer, and proposing that manual override be allowed:

A big Amen for The Schu. I well remember the start of the Australian Grand Prix many years ago, when Schumacher was involved in an incident at turn 1. His car wound up in a safe position off the track, but he deliberately drove it back *onto* the track and abandoned it right in the middle of the 1-2 complex. This

I missed your heads-up about this, but when I saw the bad guy driving a Dodge in a show so obviously sponsored by Ford, I thought something was afoot, and the moment I saw the shot of Tommy fastening his seatbelt, I knew where it was going.

I can see it being replicated in 2D, but a full 3D recreation is going to need a shitload of earthworks - the 'ring has almost 1000 ft of elevation change.

I remember FIAT used to be "Failed (or F*cked) In All Tests"

A traffic jam when you're already late is only ironic if you're late for a town planning meeting.

How come there's no Autocrossers on the GRID invite list? Skeered? ;)
