I don’t do this often but when I do its for a reason.

Ok first there was not a 9600 baud modem. There was a 9600 bit/s modem. All modems that transferred at 9600 bit/s were either 1200 or 2400 baud modems. Baud is the rate of pulses a second not the bitrate.

I do vaguely recall using a 1200 baud modem to talk to the mainframe at the university back in the early 80s. Of course we were only ever sending text, not images.
