In terms of radiation, black is an absence of light. In terms of reflection black is absorption of all frequencies (wavelengths). In either case, light cannot escape the gravitational attraction of a black hole. It is quite literally impossible to see what lies at the center of a black hole. Hence the name.

You have a factual error in your article. Supermassive black holes lie at the center of galaxies, not at the center of the universe.
