man, i miss the days when a newswire didn’t have to stretch itself out so much. back in the day this could have just been an easy paragraph with maybe one joke.
Having not seen any of the new episodes, it’s safe to say that these episodes of Ted Lasso are simply too long.
I had the feeling that Ellie DID figure out that she was going to die, but had made the decision that it was worth it to be able to provide a cure for the world. But being that she is just a teenager, she didn’t understand and/or know how to properly convey this out loud to Joel. Either out of a sense of her trying to…
Sounds like the n-word was pretty good for his career.
Thanks so much for your response! It was very hard for me to try to make my argument last week without getting into any spoilers! :) There has been a lot of discussion about this issue here and elsewhere, and I think there are a lot of valid positions one can take about the number of infected in season 1. But for me,…
I thought the series was excellent. I thought the finale was excellent. One of the best games ever spawns one of the best game adaptations ever. Some thoughts:
This is well put and my exact take on it as well (I even used Trolley problem in another post before I saw yours). To me, looking at the series this way justifies the balance of human horrors vs. zombie horrors that some viewers have been complaining about. They say there aren’t enough zombies, but it seems clear to…
Every time Ellie and Joel encounter humanity, there was nothing worth saving. Bill wrote it in his letter. Humanity isn’t worth the sacrifice. But some humans are.
Personally - and I’m not saying people who thinks otherwise are wrong, mainly because it’s impossible to objectively ascribe “right” or “wrong” labels to such situations - I would have made the same choice Joel made, and would sincerely believe I was right, as I believe Joel was. Let me explain this.
There have been so many moments in this series between Joel and Ellie, in their long road to build trust, even love. But that scene between them:
“Last year, there were more Black people presenting.”
I will go see it if only to support the general concept of dinosaurs in movies. They’re awesome! They should be in every movie! Instead we only get them in Jurassic Park movies, and only one of those was good (great, actually)!
Even though Gladiator is a great film, it pales in comparison to Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.
I totally agree. Shawshank is such a great film, while Gump is simply pleasant. When surfing, I will always stop for even just a few minutes, any scene, of Shawshank, but I won’t pause for a moment for Gump.
Return of the King is easily the weakest of the trilogy as well, but I always interpreted that win as the acknowledgement of the collective achievement and cultural impact of all three films.
I’m surprised they left that one out, considering how many other times this site had touted Pulp Fiction, not to mention The Shawshank Redemption was also in contention that year.
This entire article is framing this as if TLoU didn’t do this story back in 2013. Huge swaths of this episode (and the series) are straight form the game, and aside from seeing the men and women of the community, this is maybe the closest the show has hewn to the game.
I think this is fair and well stated (so you get a star!). And I totally get it-looking around at other takes on the game, I think my opinion is in the minority with regard to number of infected. And the reason most often given is better realism (including from my wife and my mom, who have not played the game but love…
