I always assumed he both did no harm personally, and in teaching ethics to students to he was legitimately contributing to a better world. I sort of assumed Tahani got docked for being such a smuggy smug all the time, but did so much good she still scored pretty well. Of course I was deeply and entirely wrong about

John Thompson is my new hero.

They’ll shoot you and then charge you for the bullet. You can’t make this stuff up...

No, the House Committee has passed the bill out of committee. It still has to go before the full House, I believe.

“Upholding the Constitution” = “maintaining white supremacy”

Additionally, it gives counter-protesters more ammo.

This video made me cry, his anger and his hurt and frustration are fucking powerful. I hope he scared the shit out of every single one of these chickenshits.

RESIST. We stand with you, protesters!

I won’t be holding my breath that this would be used against anti-choice protesters at a clinic.

Thank you brave citizen protesters of MN. This IS what democracy looks like. Give em’ hell.

No snark but what do you suggest we do instead?

“Government for the people” my ass. In what world can I sue the post office when I slip on some ice, but not the police when I get blasted in the face with a riot grenade? Instead I get an invoice. Nobody did this shit when the tea party held those “the president is a black person” rallies back in 2010.

“ according to Minnesota’s local CBS affiliate, will “allow local police departments to charge protesters for the costs associated with demonstrations.””

I would happily tell themselves to go fuck.

And the police will claim that all protesters are blocking traffic in any situation, in the same way they always accuse people of resisting arrest when they are beating them.

Do you hear the pain in Thompson’s voice? Want to do something?

And legislation like this is being proposed or passed in multiple states across the country. They’re specifically targeting things like “blocking traffic” because it sounds reasonable, but is ultimately an erosion of first amendment rights. In fact, you can find lots of liberals and conservatives who immediately go

So...it won’t affect the rich or people who aren’t marginalized and if protesters are fined and can’t pay...they get jail time? Also, how do you decide who was there? I mean, not everyone present is a protester, are journalists and bystanders out of luck too?

I have always had a low-grade dislike of Casey Affleck that has blossomed into a deep anger. I so agree with Constance Wu, he demonstrates how being a white man who assaults women won’t hurt your career.

Constance Wu is a badass. Doing the thing your conscience tells you is right even if it could hurt you (career-wise, in this case) is honorable and beautiful and I am really impressed by her speaking up. I also agree with her re: Casey Affleck. What a turd.
