This is why I disagree with people who put down sampling on principle. I love geeking out about “THE LAYERS.” All music’s got them, but some artists directly quote (and cite) their sources and others do not.

To be specific, she sampled Isaac Hayes’s rendition of Burt Bacharach’s “Walk on By”. She used the same sample that Hooverphonic used for “2 Wicky” some almost 20 years ago. THE LAYERS.

I didn’t get them, until I marathoned every ep of Broad City. Yeah, they talk about grass and poop, but that is just skimming the surface of what they are doing. Not trying to say you cannot dislike them, but their comedy is a lot more subversive than toilet stoner humor.
