Remember the prequels! “This weapon is your life!” I’m being a bit facetious invoking the prequels, but why WOULDN’T he have his lightsaber on him. We see most Jedi walking around with them at their hip. It’s like the cell phone of the Star Wars universe.

I feel like I love this movie more every day since seeing it. Second viewing was better than the first.

Rewatch the movie. Kylo says earlier that Rey can’t be projecting herself or otherwise the effort would kill her. Luke was stuck on the island but knew he had to project himself to distract the First Order so everybody would have time to get away. He died to save everybody else, just like Kenobi.

Rewatch the movie. He goes to his hut to try to read Ben’s thoughts and get the scoop on how evil they are. He’s shocked by what he sees and in the heat of THAT moment ignites the saber out of fear.
