I will say this: Good on Schefter for being outraged and not walking back his reporting or falling back into the NFL line on this like Peter King currently is.

I think you hit it with "He bought a team in Atlanta. Atlanta is pretty notorious for not really giving a shit about sports teams, even teams that are good." Georgia is a college football state, same as Florida. For like 15 straight years the Braves made the playoffs and there were tons of empty seats for any series…
Yes all the way. Oddly enough I can handle the screaming babies because I guess I know the baby can't help it. It's the only way they communicate and they don't understand, and it's hard for a parent to predict or know how control that. With babies it's a guessing game of what will pacify them. However once they child…
Somewhere right now Colin Cowherd is creaming himself and calling the NFL "pro-active, not reactive," proving once again that he has no idea what those words mean.
Greg, this was an excellent piece
I think the trust fund is a nice start, but to me personally, I don't like the idea of a cap. (Not arguing with you in the least BTW)
Yeah I heard about that, but why even have a capped trust fund? Just let it all go open market and let the student use that money how they wish. The punter SHOULD get some of the EA money if his likeness is used.
The sad part to all of this is there was and is such a simple solution that would cost colleges (including other students or those buying tickets to games) no extra money: Allow the athletes to be able to make money off their own name in the marketplace.
Actually what makes Stugatz even funnier is he's a New Yorker and a Knicks fan. His Heat fandom is more for the show and more of ab appreciation for the city he works in, but LeBatard all the time calls him out for being a dis-ingenious Heat fan because he's a Knicks fan...which subtly plays right into the whole "Heat…
Anyone who listened to LeBatard's show AT ALL in the past 2 weeks knew he was cooking up something. He said it repeatedly he was planning something and repeatedly stated it was all in good fun and to poke at LeBron.
Goodell has turned into a joke the last couple of years. "We have to remain consistent...We can't just make up the discipline. "
Right because he has never just made up discipline before
I was thinking the same thing. Yes, these guys get paid a very good chunk of money and yes that is the terms of the jobs they do, but it does have to be jarring. I was just picturing if other business worked this way. Around lunchtime at our jobs they'd call you in to say "we're sending you to another company in…
Damn it. This is going to lead First Take tomorrow isn't it?
Nipsey Russell would have been proud
I believe the NFL has some minimums too based on service time, but your point about the NFLPA being a joke is spot on. I can't believe they get reamed at each collectively bargaining session and fold to the owners so easily each time. The NFL is by far the most popular sport in the land unlike during the last strike…
I agree with you that point 2 shouldn't be in there at all. I think if you're going to do something like this, you should just go all the way and DH the catcher (which I wouldn't be a fan of either) I just didn't want to be "that guy" who shits totally on an idea
All interesting ideas, but not sure I'm a fan of points 2 and 4. You may actually lose MORE time doing point 2 because teams will obviously put a much better runner on in place of the catcher which may induce more throw overs/step offs which would kill more time.
I'm completely with you. I can't believe all the on air gasbags and even so many comments on ESPN saying this same type of ridiculous thing or saying "they were both drunk" It's insanity. He is so much stronger than her. A punch NEVER should have entered his mind. If she was really was hitting him first there are so…
I wonder how many of the people who side with this author still would argue that college athletes shouldn't be paid?
That was actually the very first thing I thought when I saw the image before reading the headline or the ticker. Sadly MT's Cooke's name ended with an "e" but still I'm with you.
