I love how automotive writers opine over manuals when every exotic, high-end sport car maker on the planet is dumping manuals. Because they’re dead.

Gahhh!! Too late, I bought my Mk7.5 Golf R for $41k in cash in January. Best purchase ever!
Hard pass.
This car is SHIT HOT. Period. It’s the pinnacle of performance and automotive engineering. Yet again, Porsche has set a new high bar standard by which all other exotics will be judged.
“Civil forfeiture is some deeply heinous bullshit.” <--You could have started and ended this article with that statement.
So many likes on this, SO true. My wife and I joke that on United you get a choice between a slap in the face or a kick in the crotch, both served with ice. They’re the worst... but still not as bad as American.
Why?? This is dumb AF.
Seriously, who cares? If you put this much time and effort into a cure for cancer I think we’d be halfway there.
Yay! Can we all please stop fawning over Teslas now?? They’re not the greatest thing since sliced bread, and in the long run they generate more pollution due to the battery manufacturing.
Good luck with that. I’ve tried to pay cash for my last two vehicles and even with an 800+ credit score and an open checkbook, both dealers refused to accept it. They forced me to finance some portion of the total payment. The good ol’ days of walking into a dealership with a checkbook or a stack of cash is over.
I can’t speak for everyone out there with a DSG, but I probably drive 75% of the time in manual mode. But yes, minimal engine braking. When I have brake rotors the size of a dinner plate lifted right out of the Audi parts bin, why would I even need to engine brake? I’ve almost thrown myself through the windshield…
I notice your comments are being shadow-banned as well. Anyone who puts down a manual doesn’t get to have their comment posted publicly. Is Jalopnik run by China?
I hope not. I, for one, will never own an all-electric vehicle until battery technology makes a quantum leap in maturity and environmentally-friendly production.
My buddy in high school had one of these. The convertible factor was sorta “neato” at the time, but that car was so slow to accelerate is was mind-boggling. 0-60 in “pack a lunch”
In case you haven’t been paying attention to current events, we’re getting electric cars shoved down our throats whether we want them or not. I think 15 years is liberal, it will probably take less than that.
The 7-spd DSG in my R is light years ahead of the 6-spd DSG in my old Mk5. There is plenty of engine braking, I can slow to a complete stop just downshifting without touching the brake pedal... if that’s what you’re asking?
Yet, you bought an Audi with a dual-clutch transmission. I wonder why?
If you’ve been driving in LA traffic for 20 years then you simply enjoy the pain.
I guarantee you’ve never driven a 7 spd DSG automatic produced by Audi, VW or Porsche... because you would eat every single one of those words.
