I don't think the "it happened in real life" argument holds water. In crafting the message of the Newroom, which real life events Sorkin chooses to showcase is just as important as which events are fictional.
I think that was actually the point. She wasn't asking what's wrong with being a slut just because progressive sex positive attitudes are cool. She was asking partially because she was a little ashamed of her recent promiscuity and she's trying to justify it to herself.

Honestly for all this show leans on a variety of liberal talking points from time to time it's actually a very conservative show in a lot of ways.
