I don’t fundamentally disagree with you but I do feel it’s a slightly different situation when the league insists on linking player salaries to leaguewide revenues. LeBron would probably love it if there wasn’t a salary cap that made the NBA’s revenues in China directly affect what the players could make.

Fun fact: The company more or less responsible for the Opium wars and the annexation of Hong Kong still exists, still operates in China and is now a multi-billion dollar conglomerate that manages hotels, convenience stores and shipping lines:

In Communist China, Scoops Break You.

Right but I’m not looking to tell “the story” of Tony Blair and his 10 years in office but just saying that it would have been very possible for a not very politically engaged British teenager to know who he is without knowing the critiques of his part in the Iraq war.

To be fair Blair’s awfulness isn’t just limited to the Iraq War. There are lots of reasons for a generally progressive person to be profoundly disappointed with his domestic policies as well.

I do kind of empathize with Jamil here. Like her I’m working my way backwards through history and my “Willy Brandt’s handling of the Guillame scandal cemented his place as Germany’s worst ever Chancellor” tweet isn’t holding up as well as I’d hoped.

I don’t think it’s an either/or thing. The fact that it appealed to Evangelical Christians(a big deal in Trump’s party) and Conservative Jews(a big deal where Trump is from) is why it was rushed into.

I appreciate that my “I think that 70 years of conflict has resulted in a complicated situation with bad actors on both sides” position on this issue has me dangerously outside the mainstream on these sites but for what it’s worth I don’t think anyone should be punished or reprimanded for supporting BDS even while I

It’s tough because I think he thinks the whole “Stay quiet and make your money” thing is a virtue but I do think he’s kind of right in as much as we generally don’t see athletes talking about divisive political issues. It basically took something as monumental as electing the current idiot president and the police

The difference between Israel-Palestine and China-Hong Kong, then, is only that Israel has been more successful in branding its conflict with those it oppresses as genuinely above reproach than China has thus far been with its dealings with Hong Kong.

I think that’s more or less true in as much as the Gretzky trade was for a very good young player, a top 10 sort of prospect and picks.

He looks like every apprentice Plumber I’ve ever seen my main guy bring around on jobs to yell at in Polish.

Yeah, although Colorado did get a little bit lucky there as Ottawa completely falling apart and having to move Karlsson probably wasn’t part of some grand scheme of theirs.

A McDavid trade would genuinely be the most interesting thing to happen in the NHL in years. What would Edmonton even want? What could they get? Would the Leafs be tempted to throw someone like Matthews at them or would they want younger picks and prospects instead of someone disappointed to have to play in Edmonton?

In all of the lists of Senators mishaps from 2018 one that almost never gets mentioned is Cody Ceci’s dinner party where one of the guests was lit on fire.

I have never thought that thing I said” is pretty impressive by the admittedly already high standard of bullshit to say in insincere apologies.

Except that’s clearly not true. You clearly expect every Jewish person to hold the same views on Israel ad the current conflict that you do and will dismiss any differing opinion as “supporting apartheid” or making excuses for racism. I mean, you literally said “I don’t understand how all of my fellow members of the

I think there’s something pretty revealing about your statement here. On the one hand, you dismiss the notion of Israel as intrinsic to Jewish identity or even necessarily a part of yours. On the other, you refer to the actions of the Israeli government as reflective of a sort of collective responsibility for Jewish

But it’s inextricably linked to the larger conflict. There’s no evidence that Israel was any less judicious here than they are in general in regulating movement between those places. This isn’t the sort of National Soccer Body vs. National Government sort of thing referred to re: Iran.

Right but the Geneva Convention is pretty broad on this particular sort of thing and it doesn’t seem like what Israel is doing here is de facto in violation of any of the relevant article.
