I really think that what the Jays are doing will be instructive to the rest of the league. Forget investing a ton of money in scouting and development. Just start paying a premium for genuine ex-big leaguer semen. Forget stud prospects, embrace stud fees. The Jays have clearly shown they can’t draft, sign or trade

Absolutely a boycott involves doing what you can to make sure that the business you’re boycotting doesn’t get your money. Does it make sense that the sort of people who would boycott ESPN would cancel all their sports channels in order to get at ESPN? No. Sadly, as per my point, we are not talking about the actions of

All I said is that they can go from having ESPN to not having ESPN. I didn’t say they could do it while still watching other sports channels.

So, again, people can boycott ESPN.

Or Direct TV which, again, has an ESPN-less package. And we’re not talking about things like ESPN+ or Insider.

I don’t think the USSF is a public entity. They’re not government run or publicly funded, I don’t think. I don’t have much of an opinion on the pay issue but we shouldn’t kid ourselves that international sports are anything other than a business.

They absolutely can change their cable package.

That’s applying normal standards to Trump fans who are more like cult members than they are “Conservative” in any meaningful way. If they think ESPN is an anti-Trump network they’ll unsubscribe to it and it’s the subscription fees that keep ESPN’s lights on.

Except it’s not because aside from the occasional exception like LeBatard, most of ESPN is going to follow this mandate which will thrill conservatives because in addition to getting the bland, pastey coverage they want from the network, they’ll also get to feel like their pathetic whining about what they didn’t like

Good point. I should just be happy they didn’t fight for it hobo-style.

Reporters being too busy stuffing their face with frosting and not giving us the full Mary Berry on cake quality is a perfect metaphor for something or other.

All of those reporters and not one mention of whether or not it was even a good cake.

I’m pretty confident that this management group cares about the fan base the same way every other team  cares about their fans, exclusively as walking wallets.

I don’t love the return myself but people may be overrating Stroman if they thought the Jays were going to get a Chris Sale/David Price kind of return for him.

I think that being the “smart” thing to do really depends on what the extension would look like and how close you think the Jays are to competing. If Stroman wanted something like 7 years and 25+ million a year then there’s a real chance that the only games he’d be pitching for the Jays in meaningful situations is in

I can sort of see both sides on that one. If you’re getting top of the line can’t miss prospects then, yeah, better to take those guys away from a division rival.

I guess I was always a little suspicious that the Jays would have traded him inside the division. Doing that with JA Happ is one thing but for a guy who’s been a big deal in this city like Stroman I think it would have been a but tougher on the fanbase to have Stroman come back a bunch of times while the Jays were

I mean, he was born in Georgia in the 1800's. It’s a pretty fair bet he was a racist asshole, even if he was just a run of the mill racist asshole.

These days talking with other Jets fans almost invariably revolves around the question of “So when did you stop following football?”.

How dare you sir. My four years of substance abuse were at Western.
