Well, the Veteran’s Committee clearly doesn’t even believe that being all that good at baseball is a requirement so I’ve given up on trying to guess what they may or may not do.

I mean, if you’re asking me then yes, clearly I think that his being a racist lunatic is “enough” to justify a BBWAA writer to say “Nah, I don’t think the game should celebrate this jackass”.

Tris Speaker was also inducted into the HOF during segregation. They’re allowed to have new, better standards.

Honestly, I’m comfortable enough to say that the existence of the character clause firmly makes it so he doesn’t belong.

Or, in other words, the HOF used to have shitty standards so they’re somehow morally obligated to have shitty standards forever?

I really feel like Jeffrey Epstein’s name would have been brought up a lot in the run up to the 2016 election if it weren’t for the fact that Bill Clinton was involved in that too.

The HOF has a character clause. I feel like keeping out a racist lunatic is a proper consideration of that clause.

Eh, I feel like Ty Cobb’s possibly exaggerated racism is more or less the only thing people ever mention about him these days.

Call me an eternal dreamer but I’d like to think that in the future the BBHOF would be even less inclined to want to associate with someone like him.

Finally, a much more convenient way to spend money for all of the Rays fa..

I really don’t think he goes in. I know he’s trending upward but I really think there are enough people who will just refuse to put him in that he’s got a ceiling.

Meanwhile other teams are adopting an innovative strategy of getting opponents to miss free throws by letting Rajon Rondo take free throws.

Hold on, are you saying that Trump and his gang of confederates are using an inapt metaphor? My goodness, the depths they’ve sunk to.

For what it’s worth I think Bourdain’s endorsement of Lawson’s was just him repeating what David Chang had repeatedly told him.

one of which triggered an array of porn to be broadcast onto a wall for the entire office to see for more than 20 minutes

Like I was saying, Doc’s family’s decision is the only one that makes sense because the hats he wore in Toronto never happened.

Duchene got a prospect, 2 picks and a backup goalie. Yes, the return looks great because Ottawa disintegrated and that pick might be top 5 but Chiarelli wasn’t looking for prospects and picks. He needed a defenseman, something that’s notoriously hard to find.

If Karlsson had walked in free agency after 15 months? Absolutely people would be shitting on their decision to trade Hall for him and when you say “nobody” matched Ottawa’s price not taking into account that nobody would have wanted to offer a ton for the guy just to see him walk strikes me as being pretty

Karlsson didn’t actually get traded for two playoff runs and either way, 1 “playoff run” and a full season is effectively meaningless to a rebuilding team anyway. Not to mention that when Keith Yandle is one of your examples of a great available young defenseman I think you’re already scraping the bottom of the barrel

Also, I guess, that a lot of what we consider to be good GMing is really just luck. Guys like Ken Holland and Stan Bowman have pretty well established at this point that even if you have a crazy good run of luck, it’s not actually like you’ve cracked how to draft well in the second and third rounds.
